Also, there's no reason not to ask for a raise at work just because your house is messy. The whole thing is an authoritarian "sit down and shut up!" for anybody they deem unworthy.

I survived the 80's as a yute and I have to say, concern about nuclear war was something some people had -- and some people just bumbled right along, unconcerned. (See also, global warming.) To hear that young JP was afraid of nuclear apocalypse, combine that with "Pronouns? Hate speech? THE CANADIAN GOVERNMENT WILL THROW ME IN JAIL!" and his anticommunist ravings about "CANNIBAL ISLAND IN SIBERIA! " and various other "WE'LL BE STANDING IN LINE FOR BEETS!" type hysteria, then fast forward to looky here who loves him some painkillers... Yeah, I'm guessing anxiety is a whole bunch of his psyche. I recommend going and listening to the Circle Jerks' "Anxious Boy" about four times in a row, it's awesome.

And if he had joined at a very early age, that's the kind of thing people point out later. I'm not even aware of any underage kids sneaking in stories for Vietnam. WWII, for sure, as one of them earned a Medal of Honor on Iowa Jima.
