  1. Speaking or rubbery things -- check the fuel hose(s) in that engine bay. They rot out and cause fires. So just change them. Given the previous owner's less than diligent maintenance, this should be near the top of your list.

  3. Have you tried ThermoCure by CRC/Evaporust? It removes a lot of rust from all of the engine block coolant passages/water jackets and holds it in suspension and then you drain/refill/run a few times until the water comes back clear. It's neat stuff, just like EvapoRust.
