  8. ​ @basedyt6485 in 1938 the British Empire was still reeling from the Great War, there was no appetite for another war, and many of the elites wanted a strong Germany to act as a bulwark against the Soviet Union. We declared war, and just like the French were promptly sent packing from the continent with the enormous defeat at Dunkirk (propagandised as victory but in reality a complete catastrophe).
