Conservative people are VERY easily manipulated by fear and Hitler used the same strategies to rise to power. Locations that support him tend to have very high welfare assistance rates which are supported by taxes from places that do not support him.

  8. So far the preliminary data on hospitalisation is looking promising. People are still dying but at lesser rate than with Delta. This is clearly outcompeting Delta in South Africa and will likely push Delta aside worldwide in the same way Delta pushed Alpha aside. What we need to know is the occurrence of Long Haul Covid.

  9.  @franny5295  Absolutely. Beta hit South Africa hard so there is certainly some amount of immunity from that. Unfortunatly I can't find any good data about percentage of the populations in neighboring countries who have either been sick or been vaccinated. South Africa has excellent genomics capability but not the most testing and Botswana doesn't have the lab capabilities. I think we'll need some more data from other population that experienced other variants.

Again, vaccines don't protect against infection, they protect against SEVERE DISEASE. Except for the HPV vaccine and the COVID vaccines to some level, NO other vaccines do this. Any protection from infection is a super-power of these vaccines beyond doing their job to prevent people dying.

After WWII there were huge lead mines in places like Picher, OK which needed to sell their lead and pipe makers bought. They learned nothing from ancient Rome where Lead poisoning was a pandemic. Some historians believe lead in the water and food contributed to the empire's decline. The people eating the lead saw it differently. Look up Picher, Oklahoma. There are multiple documentaries on it.
