We have been in a continuous confrontation with the Russian Federation since the moment of it's inception when it inherited the nuclear arsenal of the former USSR. It's the exact same Cold War and our State Department (which oversees Russian sanctions) has just been gutted of bipartisan carrier diplomats who have served since Carter. The institutional operational knowledge of the last 40 years has just been purged. Civilian life pays far better. While working where I was, I dealt directly with multiple nuclear weapons physicists from both Los Alamos and Lawrence Livermore who are exceptionally frightening people with no morals. Nukes scare the shit out of me but because I know what I know, I'm not willing to listen to people who clearly don't understand the game.
