Singularity fans have been saying "2 years" since before chatgpt 😂 What you guys don't understand is: 1. we don't live inside of a graph. There are multiple factors that alter the timelines, It's not just a pretty drawn projection 2. The growth is exponential, yes, but the actual singularity point is way more distant than you want to think, which means many more years still for it to happen. It would be like the Internet, which exploded with exponential adoption and real-world deployment, but the problems that arose have slowed down everything every time in all technological growth events. And it will happen again.

I've got better and faster diagnoses from current AI than from doctors with long carers and lots of experience. If only AI could order confirmation lab tests and prescribe meds I wouldn't need doctors anymore. When specially trained systems arrive, people will rapidly replace human doctors with AI. It's a sad necessity. By then, human doctors will be just an insurance requirement to blame someone in case of an AI error. Personally, when I was young I liked the idea of a wonderful person helping me to get cured, but that dream rapidly vanished once I saw how doctors actually are.

@outofbond "what would a doctor know about medicine" On my experience, very little. They just don't care. They become MDs for the money and prestige, not to help people, so they don't care about learning.

@outofbond @outofbond The thing is, those are emergency procedures that require embodied AI. For that we will have androids and other specialized machines like the ones that already exist to aid human experts to perform surgeries. That's a different thing that can, must and will be handled. The current AI hype will lead to more improvements and breakthroughs that along with investment will bring benefits for the patients. Well, mostly for the rich people that owns AI but, yeah.

@NicholasCounsell-b4i "overtime" is the keyword here. For many reasons the changes won't be as fast as the "imminent" singularity fanatics want to believe.

You guys even forget or just don't care about the fact that you live in a whole world. It's not just USA forcing their way into everyone to rule the world in a white rich people dystopia what you should be thinking about. Unless all countries move at the same peace, the world won't move forward, no matter how soon AGI arrives. And you can't move anything without friction.
