It is useful to note that it's getting more common mainly in rich countries and amongst privileged groups, where citizens have all their needs fulfilled so they have time for craziness, with little consequences.

Just study computer science and join the dark side. Once you're making money from all the stuff you used to warn them about, they won't laugh.

If big corps do it, why not?

@ScarryGargoyle autonomous car, drone and robot motion is the first and simplest use. If you have a 3d map of most of the world, you can sell realtime access to it and every time a robot is in a mapped place it will know how to move around without hitting objects and walls. Sell offline access and companies can train vehicles and robots to move around a certain location with precision. Sound and image reconstruction based on infrastructure and recorded material echoes, wifi signal enhancement, public lightning placement, gps accuracy improvements... and so on. And then they could add players' locations, faces and activities. That would be another level of intel.

That's logic, not conspiracy.

Building the map is not a problem. It's actually cool tech and can be used in many nice ways. The real problem is the illegal spying. Repurposing data that wasn't aquired to create the map is what's an scandal. But since Google got away with the exact same thing, this company will do it too.

There's a cute little thing called Linux, lol.

You do know! 😄

If ridiculously outdated look worked for Minecraft, why not for Mozilla? 😊

It's open source. You can make it whatever you want. That's the magic of open source. If any one wants to use it, that's another thing. But devs shouldn't limit themselves to any rule.

@LyubomirIko no. They don't spot those things with geo mapping. They would only do the sensitive place scanning. Maybe with other "free" apps they do the other stuff.

As long as they don't openly support Trump, I don't care at all about their ideologies. I use Firefox because it's still superior to any other browser. Runs faster (at least in my device) and has no ads and many extensions. But if I find something better I'll switch, of course.

@user-93fekod1o now that's rtrded nonsensical behavior. Quitting using something that you like just because its devs have a certain (mostly harmless) ideology? Please.

"Mostly academics and geeks" means no general users, as in no one willing to spend hundreds of dollars on dumb dancing videos and virtual money for games. Today's internet infrastructure couldn't survive without those users.
