You let exceptionalism and nationalist pride guide the writing of your history books, so that they're full with comfortable lies. What's 'pathetic' is letting one's pride keep you blind from reality. Russians live 10 years shorter lives than Western Europeans. Russian's wages are worth a bare quarter of what Western Europeans earn. Because Putin steals. And he picks a fight with us because we won't fight back. So that he can look tough to his nationalist peasants. And they can feel proud over bullying others on the world stage. 'Pathetic' is the right word for that.
