  1. 2/3 of Serbian exports goes to the EU. 2/3 of Serbian imports are from the EU. Serbia's largest trading partners are Italy and Germany. Russia's economy is smaller than Italy's and dwarfed by the EU on a scale of the U.S. vs. Mexico. Serbia is perfectly surrounded by NATO. Serbia exercises its military with Western partners 10 times more than it does with Russia. Serbs moving to work in the EU could see their wages multiply, working in Russia would give the same low wage. ... If you just dropped the emotional identity-politics and accepted realpolitik you'd understand that Serbia has little choice but to join the EU.
