  1.  @davidt02  Singapore didn't require foreign investors to enter into JVs unlike Japan & mainland China, perhaps to increase its attractiveness to foreign investment. Long-term though I guess we may need to focus more than we prev thought on developing indingenous expertise if we want to maintain our position on or move up the value chain, since I believe the foreign investors are still going to retain the highest elements of their value chain e.g. R&D in their home countries, while eventually other developing countries could catch up & our factories e.g. fabs might end up being offshored there isntead. Maybe we'll be able to discover a new market for a new architecture/product line/type to be invented
