Guess in some industries S Korea may have the challenge of being regarded as neither as cheap as China nor as quality as Japan e.g. Sigma got blacklisted in my country after too many of their lifts in public housing estates broke down. Interesting that S Korean companies dominate in some industries e.g. semiconductors but in other industries e.g. trucks & buses, we may be 'bypassing' Korean brands by directly going from Japanese ones e.g. Mitsubishi, Isuzu to China ones e.g. CAMC, Yutong, perhaps as quality in China catches up

@julianpark390 Think Asian economies were less affected by the 2008 financial crisis as their culture is more conservative & made less risky investments. So protest movements like Occupy didn't gain so much traction here. One of my countrymen even argued that their protesters are lazy in contrast to the 'hardworking' bankers

Meanwhile large companies in Singapore are often foreign investors or gov't-linked, which probably limits how much political influence they have e.g. S'pore Technologies (ST) sells APCs (e.g. Bronco/Warthog) & MAN buses, services aircraft & is a defence & electronics contractor (it lost a bid to NCS to build the latest ERP2.0 (our local ETC system)). Maybe NTUC is seen as a conglomerate too - besides being the association for trade unions here it also sells insurance (Income) & runs the largest supermarket chain (FairPrice) here, while it also runs Warehouse Club that's modeled after CostCo
