Simon England Shakespear couldn't spell for toffee. But interesting to hear there spelling may be closer to the original, I've heard American accents are closer to those of the 17th ish century.

Good to hear that point made. We had a real Reliance. Added to the money was the threat of the USSR, making taking a strong position even harder.

It would be nice to hear a bit more about the success. You mentioned our move to component production. That seems like the best strategy given to size of the UK. Was that good government decisions?
1
It lasted quite long and Britain's still better off than most of it's colonies. If this is reaping what you sow I'll take it.

The UAVs that are smaller and cheaper are also less capable, they do different roles and basically aren't comparable. No one has build a UAV fighter. You'd get some saving and for it you'd risk losing the aircraft simply by disrupting the control communication.
1
The idea is to have a jet at the end but to get there by bits and not stop once there. You need an updated airframe at some point. The only realistic option I can see to producing a jet is a merger with the French project but I can't see the French giving up on building there own engine.

Not since 1801

Sure, Europe is irrelevant, Boeing never worries about Airbus?

It isn't rough times, it's a rough future. Times aren't going to get better for steel.
1
@mrcaboosevg6089 There's industries where there's a future, that isn't steel. It wasn't coal either.

Projects that start here are bought up before they get huge. People make life changing amounts but not world changing ones. The US has a domestic scale advantage as well as being the incumbent. But yeah, places like the Silicon Fen have the talent.
1
The UK 65m, India 1350m. The UK didn't let India do anything, India woke up. But there's great familial links there that might mean a good future relationship.
1
We have full access to all those European joint projects. Team Tempest was originally all UK based, the Leonardo part was based on the Edinburgh radar labs. Even as it expands it's not looking to include the US. But if you look at others like India, Sweden or South Korea the dependence is the engine, which we are a world leader at.
1
It sold a chunk that wasn't very engine based. Gas turbines are in the core business and it still has MTU on the diesel front.
1
France will too.
1
@brandonstrife9738 it might depend on what you consider 6th gen. But France will build a next gen jet (they have a consistent history of building jets) and it will have aspects beyond the current 5th. There focus is on networking, loyal wingmen is an almost cert.
1
@brandonstrife9738 I don't see any loyal wingmen flying? Pretty much by definition stuff being developed now is next generation. As well as a good active stealth capabilities France already has project like NEuroN. But your right if 6th gen was defined by stealth France is behind. But the next generation is never about the same step as the last. So why bring it up?

That's an article about a hypothetical. And more geneall Rolls is a big player despite a hard decade.
1
@TJH1 the hypothetical would be that they are in talks with part, not decision made. I'm not well informed on commercial aviation. So I will listen to corrections. But my quick googling had it supplying 4 Airbus varient and 2 Boeing.
1
@TJH1 I am. And maybe we are arguing about nuance. GE is bigger. But the article you linked talked about GE breaking Rolls pseudo European hegemony rather that putting it to bed.
1
Yep, nothing to do with the destitute state WW2 left Europe in.
