It's choice not impossibility. P9lands choice, neighbouring Russia, is different to ours. (It's also worth noting it's Poland's army that gettingbthemmassive uplift, that is the least of Britains military)

To all those who want much larger numbers, first we need the proper support for the numbers we have. And frankly that will take all the money we can get when every department is looking for more and we are already spending money we don't have.
6
Ridiculous statements like that detract from genuine criticism of bad policies.

@johnwhittle.22 if you change the entire structure of Russia it has potential...

@iamjames8200 China is still way behind the US in the military.

The F35 has been overpriced but it ain't a dud. It's being snapped up around the world.
1
The politcal parties followed the public will, Generals having be asking for more as long as I've known.
1
Production is long underway, thats part of the problem.

So this video is about a hollowed out force despite spending over 2% of GDP, your numbers basically look like doubling so that 5+% of GDP.

@fightforaglobalfirstamendm5617 You know we literally have a foreign aid budget? But anyway we spend about a quarter of our defence budget on equipment which is actually quiet high we aren't scurrying away massive sums.
1
It's a fair argument for having a small force, like we have. But that forces still needs to be able to react to the unexpected and hollowing out risks that. Also things like not maintaining infrastructure isn't actually saving money but pushing cost down the line.
1
Who's WW3 with, Russia that is stuck in Ukraine? Also we have 2 carriers to always have one available not to deploy both.
1
What's to see? It's no surprise if you spend more you get more.
1
@garagenigel not really it has a bigger army, smaller navy.
1
@garagenigel why do you think they can do more than us?
1
Depends what you mean by world power, it operates across the world but at a small scale, that should continue.
1
We can certainly afford a larger budget if we choose. 3% isn't particularly high in a historical sense. It would mean less for other things so we may choose not to but it's a choice.
1
@gareth2397 NATO is the context of our defence, NATO massively out spends, out mans and out techs Russia.
1
Are Russians themselves so incompetent that with the beat arms and a lot of them they can't win?
1
Russia is poor, the only reason they even have a large army is legacy kit from the Soviet union.
1
Russia loosing wouldn't be an existential threat to Russia. It might be the Putin himself but there are other people around that can stop using nukes
1
The voter. Ultimately governments haven't spent because it doesn't win votes.
