Good video, its a serious hard power asset but the soft power is also key.

it will end non descriptly as it always does.

Cool stat for the 1960s.
3
Why claim ignorance and knowledge in the same post?
3
This was a trip to the SCS, how's that forgetting about China?
2
Apart from, you know, WW2, WW1, Napoleonic Wars.
2
So the carrier is from an age before it was invented?
2
That poverty is just a percentage of median income, it means there poorer than average not necessarily that they are poor.
2
Basically the opposite of what this tour has showed seeing 40 nations and many significant exercises.
2
How close is too close?
1
@mwtrolle 1 Ford class is about 50% more than 2 QE class.
1
The Imperialist in this context is China. They are claiming territory not there's, bullying there neighbours, replacing natives in there territory.
1
@eymeeraosaka2954 Tibet or Xinjiang
1
@eymeeraosaka2954 the Falklands has never been Argentinian. We are united with the Republic of Ireland over Northern Ireland, it will return when it's people want to. Diego Garcia more dubious but very small in scale compared to China.
1
@eymeeraosaka2954 You don't speak for Asia. This was a diplomatic tour talking in 40 nations and multiple exercises WITH Asian nations.
1
@eymeeraosaka2954 The Falklands is self governing but chooses to stay an overseas territory, in large part because Argentina wants to annex it despite it never being part of Argentina. On Northern Ireland the whole point is less than half want to join the Republic, when it's more than half they will join. You know Turks don't come from Turkey? They are a step people. My whole point is China are acting like Britain once did. Han Chinese are moving into areas that weren't there's.
1
@eymeeraosaka2954 You speak for yourself, you don't speak for Asia.
1
@eymeeraosaka2954 the world certainly isn't behind the US starting a war with China, nor is the UK. What are you on about. As an actual example if what is actually going on, whilst on it's tour the UK reaffirmed it commit to the Five Powers agreement, two of which are Singapore and Malaysia.
1
@eymeeraosaka2954 Britain is fine economically, I'm not a fan of Brexit but the change is extremely close to very close. We are still working very closely with France, for example collaborating on Misisles following on from Meteor with the likes of Sea Venom and the up and coming FC/ASW. We understand we have differences but ultimately we are democracies that compared to China look like twins. Even with China we continue to trade, just with a more cautious approach.
1
I love to see India in the channel, we could do some ops together like we have been doing in the Indian ocean.
1
These Chinese Navy is based on local defence. It is relying on it's air force for cover. Without out that a destroyer is of little use. Power projection is measured is subs and carriers, destroyers are simply carrier protection.
1
Where is a statement about autonomy in that quote?
1
A reasonable tactic if we were trying to win a war but we are trying not to fight one.
1
@mikesmith-wk7vy Do you think the STOVL variant doesn't have an internal weapons bay?
1
@mikesmith-wk7vy the RAF typical internal load is 2 AMRAAM and 2 Paveway IV. They use the F35B.
1
@mikesmith-wk7vy or you just have no idea what you talking about.
1
@mikesmith-wk7vy I can't look up something that isn't true.
1
If we not then we are certainly allied to a 'big boy'. But who else are putting carrier groups at the other side of the world?
1
In the same sense we are a target from an ICBM.
1
@hathawayrose2183 That would be an act of war, resisted by force.
1
@hathawayrose2183 we are talking about British ships not US ones, so start is nonsense. And inflatable boats and warships, two very different things.
1
She has a air wing and an escort group, how does that make her defenceless?
1
@tommiatkins3443 If your discussing a carrier without her escort you have no idea what your taking about. Also jets are quiet capable of shooting down missiles.
1
@tommiatkins3443 only 3 of the type 45s are in long term maintenance. Frigates have AAW capability.
1
We spend a lot more on health than defence.
1
It would be a lot easier to do that if Russia didn't do things like annex Ukraine.
1
How do you figure. Any prospect of invasion ended in the battle of Britain before Russia entered the war.
1
This is a very different story.
1
It's not the soviet system, it's the current one.
1
Did you say you don't want them except you do want them?
1
Why would Putin be at that table?
1
Last time Britain fought Russia it won the Crimean war.
1
@SuperBigwinston You said Russia gets attacks and wins, I was simply saying that was wrong. You are also talking about a different Russia to the historical one.
1
@gj8550 It's important to do both. And certainly for defence it should be continuous.
1
@UCZrVIfR9qfdc7J7Hqs7MWMw It's defending our allies and trade routes. But more generally if you're defending at your borders your people are getting hurt and your not doing a good job.
1
@gj8550 As I said, if it's at your borders you've done something wrong.
1
You take to comparison of Hitler in WW2 with very different land invasions rather than, you know, the US!
1
Its not the Royal Navies duty, its border forces.
1
Sure we have various allies nearby. Russia doesn't want us around so it can bully them.
1
Depends what you mena by world power. It isn't a superpower but the next step down it clearly is by Navy, Money or Diplomacy.
1
Russia will keep pressing. If there is a weakness something might happen or might not but it is better there is not weakness. Weakness at home makes Russia more dangerous because they may need a distraction.
1
Which day, you know the Royal Navy also worked against slavery.
1
@PauloGoncalvesGuimaraes the only time Russia has not attacked beyond it borders is when someone was strong enough to stop it. From the Russian Empire to the USSR invading Poland to today with Ukraine and Georgia.
1
Except we are actually supporting weaker countries against the bully.
1
Russia feels it can dictate Georgia and Ukraine's foreign policy, the UK disagrees.
1
@noname-wg5me why wouldn't Russia take a Nuclear power with a larger economy and UN veto seriously? But we don't work alone anyway, with respect to Russia it's generally in the context of NATO.
1
@noname-wg5me I'm talking about the UK in respect to them, yes.
1
You mean like the decades of peace between superpowers we've had, that kind of learning?
1
2 is a lot?
1
Russia has one broken carrier. China's only just built her first.
1
Henry VIII was also a Prince of Wales, you could go with father ship.
