@catlee8064 Ajax itself doesn't carry infantry. Ares does but less. Weight creep definitely has been an issue with Ajax. In hindsight maybe a warrior with upgraded engine, weapon, electronics etc. could have filled the role.

@reyvan3806 Ajax and Boxer don't seem the best fit. The impression I get is to think of Boxer as more part of the Logistics side. Fighting is Infantry supported by Ajax. Getting there Boxers will carry the infantry and Ajax will be carried.
2
@reyvan3806 there's different doctrines involved there. Russia is designed to fight without air superiority, the US will buy all mod cons regardless of value for money. Australia is more interesting.
2
@reyvan3806 It strikes me as something highly vulnerable on the outside, but that could be rubbish. And though it might not be overly expensive it's money that is better used on equipping and training the infantry with them that's the prefered option.
2
That would make perfect sense, it was designed to work with Challenger.
2
@overcorpse I don't know specifics but even when they were both under the same FRES program banner they didn't want boxer for both. The obvious difference is tracks, but there could well be other advantages.
2
Do you think peer adversaries don't have infantry?
2
What are you expecting it to look like?
1
Armed reconnaissance.

@catlee8064 updating the Warrior design and building new vehicles is going to be basically the same cost as Ajax. Boxer is a Mastiff replacement.
1
No it replacing the CVR(T) ie. Scimitar. Most won't be personal carriers, though a few Ares are.
1
Planes and ships, we're an island. Tanks are just something heavy to transport.
1
@bandhsilvers1 battleship?
1
Replacing Scimitar in the Reconnaissance role.
1
Apart from the men in it, the tanks it works with, air support and artillery. Other that that, yes tanks are a problem.
1
Ajax itself doesn't take troops, Ares only takes 4 and I believe drops the 40mm.
1
The APC version on Ajax, Ares, only takes 4 soldiers.
1
@TheOneVoxel it's the war we plan for but by planning for it we stop it happening. But the war against Russian kit ...
1
It's an Infantry Fighting Vehicle. This update is mainly about the 30mm gun being upgraded. Warthog isn't providing that.
1
@blmetal65 I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the Warthog, simply it filled a different role. An APC not an IFV so it's not viable warrior replacement.
1
Defends us from what, we both fight together, a long way from home?
1
@m4a1z1 Interestingly the average age of an active Abrams is something like 4 years because for a few years they've been building them to keep the production lines going rather than because they want more.
1
@aquillandscroll6428 that was actually Challlenger 1.
