2.5% is basically just avoiding the cuts that were otherwise coming. Its only with the growth to 3% that we will have significantly more capability.

It will help support our joint fighter project.

@GonzoTehGreat funding is allocated, but there is an overall shortfall for current plans. But yes, it will also go towards correcting deficiencies, but that means money doesn't need pulling from elsewhere to do that.

@BRH0587 Thanks for that explanation. I think this kind of thing needs more publicity, it's too easy to look at a basic salary and not at the situation you will be in after say 4 or 12 years.

@GonzoTehGreat Agreed gradual is the way to go, but I basically ignore any claims that are pushed off to the next government. In this case, particularly, there is a gap between 2027 and the next election. Not saying it won't happen, just that I'll wait and see. And planning for money you don't get is worse than never expecting it, as we've seen with things like the warrior upgrade that cost millions and got nothing.

As the 2.5% is a percentage of GDP not a percentage increase of the existing budget it will take into account inflation. If we head into recession there is an issue but at the moment we are looking at low level growth.
