As far as I've heard Merlin Crowsnest is still awaiting official IOC (though it has been used).

Never as it stands, Tempest is being designed for traditional airfields not carriers.

It's disappointing but nothing extreme, quite common with new vessels. Problems 5-10 years in are something notable.

They tend not to be, this would be fine, but a big issue will just drive the company under and the government would have to pick up a bigger mess.

Frigates, destroyers, subs, jets, helicopters.

@helainewilliams8253 carriers have always been sinkable, subs were taking them down when they were dominating the seas in WW2. But that doesn't make them sitting ducks, and compared to other surface vessels, their defence starts hundreds of miles away.

@paulhiggins8774 we have the F35B, it isn't just a purchase, it is a program we were part of from the start and help build. A carrier aircraft requires quite a lot of modification even with catapults. The F35C, for example, has a larger wings and reinforced landing gear. It is possible we would look to a modified Tempest to replace the F35B, but it's a long way off.

It now His Majestys Ship, previous Her under Queen Elizabeth.

The US ships with F35Bs are first and foremost for marines, no ramp gives extra helicopter space.

@jimramsey8887 yeah, not ideal, but I think the issues have been more a case of improving capability than us not having something usable.
1
@brunol-p_g8800 we're talking about Merlin Crowsnest.
1
@death_parade No, the most frustrating thing about the delays is it was supposed to be the easy continuation and not something new and risky.
1
@asb358 they have enquired about emals for drones, to supplement the F35Bs.
1
Not for what we wanted, 4 would give you more spread but a low sortie rate.
1
Planes only join when needed, and even then are kept under deck when not flying.
1
@davidrobertsemail one will have 24/36 jets depending on the conflict, the other will take over as needed.

The two is one is showing itself with QE having covered any duties. We were only looking for one available. It will get various refits and rebuilds over it's planned 50 year life.

Joint biggest would still be biggest.
