Lucky, I guess, in that the British were at the zenith when China was weak. But patient, you give the British too much credit. They stumbled into it and barely consider it a war, and give it less cultural relevance than the Boer war.

Barry Ng the British empire got what it wanted. There wasn't a grand plan for world domination from the government. It didn't send out massive armies. India, the most similar part, was conquered piece meal by a company. The UK today is still highly relevant. It's a security council member, G7 member, contains the global financial centre and operates a military worldwide. I admit it's not as powerful as China but then it only has a 20th of the population. I will note it is surrounded by friends.

Do you think all the times China untied after splitting were done by polite requests? Do you think there isn't reams of history written in Europe about the evils of their past?

It did, but Britain drank a loooot of tea. After China the top tea producers today are India, Sri Lanka and Kenya all there because of the empire was run on tea.
