Much respect Joe, your content continues to tell it like it is. Second homes, property prices, business rates, no more EU subsidies, no new affordable housing, no fault evictions, bankrupt local councils causing social service cuts, the decline of local industries, benefit cuts. They were all like slow bullets,: everyone saw disaster coming, no one did anything. Cornwall is an unusual case as a county because, unlike more urbanised county areas, it has very low immigration stats. So this just goes to show how successive Tory governments have treated their own people, in mostly conservative constituencies. Some people have made fortunes over the last decade, mostly at the expense of the most vunerable and working people, then they remove the wealth from circulation, pay as little tax as possible and claim non dom status. There is no 'trickle down effect' with wealth and productivity and your videos are really showing this clearly. Keep it up mate,

Great content as usual Joe, the graphics you included this time were a good addition. Just a suggestion mate, as you move forward, see if you can include some interviews with people involved in running the system. I know you talk to locals and shop keepers etc but how about some local councillors, some local MPs, charity workers, social workers,teachers, even the police if possible. Keep it up mate, its valuable stuff. Your compassion does you credit.

Considering the government is intent on building millions of new houses you would think they would be able to come up with some way of making use of those that already exist but are going to waste. Surely it wouldn't take much?

@thathurt That may be true but I would still rather have homeless Brits temporarily housed there, given free meals, clean beds, hot water, heated bedrooms, health checks, spending money etc etc rather than a gang of young guys who's only qualification is that they just arrived on a boat.

Unemployment, gangs, drugs, alcohol, immigrants and asylum seekers, crime, homelessness etc.etc. (I won't mention the implicit cultural threat from the religion of peace). This is not multi-culturalism, because there is no integration or cohesion, despite how hard the Danish state has tried to come up with a successful formula for solving this problem (much harder than the UK government ever has tried by the way). People who do not share the host country's values or attitudes (and have no particular reason to) end up living in an empoverished, parallel society. They end up alienated and separate, with little incentive to embrace the host country, its customs, its culture or even properly learn its language. They simply turn the host country into a version of the place they came from, complete with values and customs. This is why the DPP in Denmark have emerged and become more prominant, just like the populist parties in most other European countries have. However you have to admit the flats look much better than those in any average English council estate, the transport links are good, the cobblestone streets are clean (even if the walls aren't) the rubbish gets collected and amazingly your bike doesn't get nicked! As you rightly point out Joe, things are much worse in most English cities right now. Most of us would be happy if our shopping streets, our inner city areas and our transport links looked and felt as nice as their Danish equivalents. We can all speculate on why this is and who is to blame but I don't see the next Labour Government being willing or able to do much to change this awful legacy of 14 years of Tory mismanagement. I wonder who has the solution? Leave your suggestions below....

How come there is always a Turkish barbers, a vape shop and a mobile phone shop that seems to be doing okay? I can understand there is still a massive demand for crap take away grub, but the barbers? I don't get it.

@RunningOnABall in Barcelona there is currently a massive movement of local people fighting against losing their communities and neighbourhoods to Air BnB. Its happening all over the world right now, local people being forced out of their own neighbourhoods.

There is a homelessness/housing crisis going on in this country and it's any port in a storm for most suffering the effects. Right now homeless people have very few safe options. We need local councils to build more affordable homes and for the public to not just tolerate homelessness but to lobby their MPs and councils for practical solutions. If you don't like the situation then help change it.

Oh well, I suppose it was inevitable you'd have to go back to the squalor eventually Joe! It needs to be seen though, otherwise people wouldn't believe it. Well done for staying overnight mate, but you should try it for a few weeks next time!. Keep up the good work mate. Show the UK how it really is.

@cafsixtieslover Someone else in the comments said it was a sh*thole, which makes me feel a tiny bit less annoyed about it's current occupants. But even if it was horrible, the Home Office pays for brand new matresses, new tables and chairs, the bedding is cleaned every four days, the food is hot and nourishing and served three times a day, the heating is always on full blast, the showers are nice and hot and there are pool tables, table tennis and tv. FOR FREE. Various charities provide new shoes, new clothing and bicycles.The guys can come and go as they please, they get a certain amount of pocket money, they all seem to be able to afford cigarettes and they all have mobile phones.

@thegenius8817 it reminds me very much of the squat/traveller scene in England in the seventies and early eighties, before Thatcher and the Tories found ways to make it illegal or impossible. If local councils don't have the funds to redevelop empty properties and are prepared to turn a blind eye to the various health and safety legislation being ignored, what harm does it do? You can at least take people away from sleeping rough in city centres and you may just end up with vibrant, creative communities like Christiania. Either way, with the huge numbers of migrants, asylum seekers and refugees being added to those who desperately need housing, something positive has to be done to avert this crisis.

East London is still great, if you can speak Bengali. It's a vibrant and exciting place with colourful Palestinian flags flying from every lampost. Plenty of women dressed modestly, young religious men who care passionately about their prophet and lots of lovely South East Asian cuisine available to all. Can't possibly imagine why you think the people are horrible, unless you mean the groups of young men who use cutlery to settle their disputes?

Employment could be promoted and directed towards economically deprived areas by central and local government offering businesses tax concessions, regulatory freedoms, improved infrastructure, government contracts, internal investment. Maybe even promoting our exports and limiting or taxing foreign imports? In Sunderland, right next to the Stadium of Light, they are building a massive group of film studios, employing thousands and revitalizing the local economy, with all sorts of tax incentives that attract investment from abroad, Why not in South Wales? Alternatively they could use the abandoned buildings to house the thousands of illegal migrants; employing them to refurbish the town, clear the refuse, repair buildings and repaint houses?

@AlanBrown. In my opinion Thatcher, Major and Blair could have kept the mines going if they had wanted to, by using the kind of strategies I mention above. They chose not to for political reasons and because they were globalists. The same can be said of our recent Conservative governments and their destruction of the steel industry. Sometimes its not about profitability, its about the social benefit of having communities where everyone has work, dignity and community cohesion. We just need a government that is prepared to see it that way.

Joe, how about checking out the town Prince Charles built: Poundbury in Dorset. Its supposed to be the perfect English town with modern classical architecture etc. Might be an interesting contrast with all the places you've been to so far?

Great content Joe. I went there in the eighties, my main memory was of chaotic drug tourism and petty crime. A lot Hells Angels and junkies basically. Seems quite quiet now in comparison, maybe because it was so cold on the day you visited? Try it again at night in the height of summer, see if it's still so mellow. Great choice of subject mate.

Keep it up bruv, your documentaries are dealing with issues the mainstream media can't be bothered with or distort the facts to suit their own agendas. The shops are used as a front for money laundering. They only accept cash so they don't declare their takings to avoid paying tax. They employ undocumented immigrants from Kurdistan, Turkey, Iraq and other Middle Eastern countries and pay them less then minimum wage. They usually provide the workers with digs as well, in houses of multiple occupants, taking the rent directly from the wages. It is a massive organized criminal system making use of peoole trafficking, drug importation and tax avoidance. They do cut your hair though.

@JoefishJ Years ago there was a quite violent war between various Scandanavian biker gangs and organised criminal gangs, involving the control of the drug trade, the illegal importation of Harley Davidson motorcycles via Portugal and (after the various violent struggles in the former Yugoslavia) unlicensed weapons coming up from the Balkans. There were various murders and well publicised violent clashes all over Northern Europe. Neutral biker gangs were coerced into taking sides. Christiania was a focal point for a lot of this, so you can see why the locals were so dead-set on removing that threat within their community. It was an extremely dark time for the 'alternative lifestyle' communities as, for a long time, the police seemed to be powerless to stop it all escalating. I'm very happy to see that the people of Christiania have finally succeeded in moving on from this era of chaos. Well done Chritiania and well done you for having the guts to go there and see first hand what is going on now. Keep the good content coming mate, especially the alternative lifestyle stuff, you're doing a great job. Maybe try Stone Henge for the Summer Solstice?

@stephenthomas3085 Says a lot that you have to go back twenty years for the last time anybody thought about regenerating these kinds of communities, let alone actually tried it.. it needn't cost a lot to get ball rolling but if it does then the local or central government need to think of innovative ways to foot the bill. The problem is that you can't evaluate the social benefits in monetary terms.

@luggylugworm It was the Beaker People what started all our problems, coming over here from central Europe with their fancy drinking vessels and burial goods, taking our jobs and teaching us their crafty ways. We should have sent them back when we had the chance. Too late now, the damage has been done!
