  1. The problem is that the moderate Muslim majority needs to constantly reassure everybody else in Europe that they are capable of controlling the radical Islamist minority. Islamists keep committing violent crimes all over Europe and represent a constant threat to Western liberal, democratic, secular values. So it falls to moderate people like Baroness Warsi to step up, show courage and positively lead her community, not get the hump and chuck it in because she encounters insults and discouragement. It's hard work, but people like her need to do it. The 'sipping from a coconut' meme doesn't help, that is a hurtful, racist trope and she should know better. Meanwhile her complaints about the treatment of Muslims sound more and more like an appeal for Islamophobia/blasphemy legislation, to restrict criticism of Muslims as well as debate about and analysis of the Islamic faith in general. Dodgy ground in my opinion. You can not ignore or excuse the grooming gang scandals, you can not ignore support for terror groups like Hamas and Hezbollah in the Muslim community, you can not ignore the regular violent terror incidents, the anti-semitism, the rhetoric of people like Muhammad Hijab etc and nor should you be legally compelled to. It is not 'racism' to be concerned about these issues.

Is it the case that they (or their previous generations) came for economic/educational opportunities, took advantage of the freedoms and security that the host nation provided and, having fulfilled the expectation that they and their families should become elevated financially and professionally, they are now free to move on to better circumstances? Does this not support the proposition that immigrants are never as fully committed to the host country as the indiginous population? They bonds of place, language, history, culture are not as strong when there are fewer opportunities?

I get that she has been briefed to challenge his assertions on the basis that they seem 'anti women' and she steers him towards the most 'offensive' conclusions that seem to arise from them but blimey, what a frustrating sequence! She constantly restates his observations incorrectly, moves so quickly away from his answers when they refer to empirical evidence, she puts words into his mouth, but wont accept it when he re-phrases carefully correcting her deliberate misunderstandings, she challenges his conclusions on the basis of her opinion and anecdote rather than the intellectual rigour that informs his conclusions, she shifts to accusing him of being simply a 'provocatuer' when her attacks don't seem to stick and at the end he charmingly laughs and says 'My pleasure...'.

  4. In the light of Baroness Casey's damning 2023 report on institutional racism, sexism and homophobia within the Met's workforce and systems, this now sounds like absolute cobblers. Cressida Dick's leadership was woefully inadequate and her time in office was a tragic litany of systematic failures and mismanagement of her own staff. Let's hope things improve now she's gone. Somehow I'm not convinced though...
