The same could be said of Michael Foot, thinking that his ideals and policies would win him the election, oblivious to the public's poor perception of him because of his woeful public image. A politician's public persona is massive in modern politics, ethics, principles and ideals are superfluous? Starmer may imagine himself as a 'policy' guy not a 'personality' politician, but abandoning the unions and all the underpaid workers and concentrating upon economic policy will not gain him support, nor will it win him the next election.
