  1. Could this situation be helped by Hamas returning the hostages and laying down their arms? If, in this way, Israel's justification for the conflict was taken away, it would force Israel to cease fire and start the process of rebuilding Gaza. UN agencies would then be free to distribute food and medicine, international NGOs would be free to enter the region to rebuild essential infrastructure and Israel would have no justification for hindering them. Is this not the simplest possible solution to this terrible situation?.
