  1. The Tories maintain their popularity because voters don't see the Labour party as offering them anything fundamentally different. Take away the Tory press and mainstream media, take away the government's impunity, the cronyism, the disasterous mismanagement of the pandemic, the lack of social mobility, the lack of vision and STILL Labour don't present a realistic systemic alternative. Even if they did, the vast majority of voters aren't interested. They don't care about proportional representation (never have), they' don't care about systematic change (never have) and they don't favour a left wing agenda. To suppose they ever will is naive. At best we can expect a moderate swing away from the Conservatives when Brexit is embedded, a moderate movement towards social justice when COVID is supressed and a slight shift in rhetoric when unemployment is rife.
