  1. If Trump undermines NATO the cost of supporting the Eastern NATO nation's security will fall upon Germany, France and the UK. Speaking as a Brit I can categorically state that the UK can not afford increased military spending. Our military budget is usually around 2% of GDP and that is already stretching our economy beyond sustainability. The next government (almost definitely Labour) will definitely not receive a mandate to increase military budgets. Their budgetary emphasis will entirely be upon domestic spending; public services and investing in our collapsing institutions, infrastructure and trying to stimulate domestic economic growth. The weaker Trump makes NATO the stronger and more emboldened Putin will feel. In effect Trump will be throwing nations like Lithuania, Poland, Finland etc to the wall.
