From the state of nature Etc. The founders were wealthy land owning white men. They separated church and state. It is my contention that even they felt it's pressure. Originalism and or textualism is a myth. The founders after all were not originalist them selfs. No church property is taxed and so the infidel and the atheist and the man (mankind) without religion are taxed to make up the deficit. The church is always trying to reform other people it might not be a bad idea to reform itself a little, by way of example? I agree concentration of power in a politcal machine is bad; and an established church is only a political machine; it was invented for that; it is nursed, cradled, preserved for that; it is a enemy of to human liberty, and does no good which it could not do better in a split-up and scattered condition right? The church worked hard at night and day during nine centuries and had imprisoned, tortured, hanged, and burned whole hordes and armies of witches, and washed the Christian world clean with their blood. Then it was discovered that there was no such thing as witches, and never had been. One doesn't know weather to laugh or cry. Who discoverd that there was no such thing as a witch-the priest, the parson? No these never discover anything. I am a democrat.

The church has opposed every innovation and discovery from the day of Galileo down to our time, when the use of anesthetic in childbirth was regarded as a sin because it avoided the biblical curse pronounced against Eve (Vaccine?). And every step in astronomy and geology ever taken has been opposed by bigotry and superstition.(southern border?) The Greeks surpassed us in artistic culture and in architecture five hundred years before Christian religion was born. So Word it softly as you please, the spirt of patriotism is the spirt of dog and wolf. The moment there is misunderstanding about a boundary line or a hamper of fish or some other squalid matter, see patriotism rise, and hear him split the universe with his WAR-whoop. the spirit of patriots being in its nature jealous and selfish, it's just a man's line, it comes natural to him- he can live up to all it's requirements to the letter; but the spirit of Christianity is not in its entirety possible to him.
