Occupational hazard, you're too politically important to be left by yourself (Alternatively we've pissed off so many foreign military powers that "being the President of America" at all is just asking for a lead-based flossing and the President usually isn't paranoid Enough about that shit). It actually kind of is Secret Services job to be a babysitter when the President's out and about just because "The politician" probably isn't paying nearly as much attention to security protocols as they should be. Obama had handlers, Bush had handlers, Biden and Clinton had 'em, pretty much standard if you're in the White House.
