Did ships other than the Lexingtons practice launch and recovery in full reverse with the aircraft going in the bow to stern direction? I remember reading that there were arresting cables installed in the bow for this purpose, that the Lexington's electric drive made them very capable of going fast in reverse and at least one account where this was done during early WW2 (The First Team, Lundstrom?)

@Thirdbase9 CV gun kill, check out Taffy 3 off Samar. A CVE scored a 5" round on a heavy cruiser and detonated the cruiser's torps. Edit: and great timing with the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Samar coming up on the 25th of Oct.

@bkjeong4302 definitely will revisit the Samar video, especially with the 75th anniversary coming up. A CVE taking out a heavy cruiser by gunnery is a story that makes me want to believe 🙂. Kind of like if the only daylight picture taken during WW2 with both USN and IJN ships in the same frame were these 2 ships.
