The wonderful A4 was surprisingly about the same dimension as a Zero, except the later is wide and short and the former is narrow and long.

@GaldirEonai the answer is yes, the embarked float or seaplanes were used for logistics transfer. The Grumman Duck is a classic example. That thing it's like a moving van with the volume between the fuselage and float enclosed for the passengers. The Duck was even capable of launching and arrested landings on aircraft carriers. It was an ugly duck, but it was useful.

@lesliewilson2122 (1) RAF bomber command resources would be freed up to put more ordnance on continent (2) RN Capitol units would be freed up for the Mediterranean and (eventually) Pacific (3) Coastal command will rack up more kills on those long range patrols aircraft (4) the U boat tide will take a little longer to turn (5) more dead U boats (ASW got really good).

@captainobvious9233 because they did try to put the Hornet under tow to capture it as a trophy. But she was such an obvious flaming white elephant, that even the IJN made the sensible decision to sink it.

@aliceosako792 at night, 6 Fleischer's will do, no losses. Clear day, double it and maybe one lucky strike until the other 11 Fletchers close to Torp range. In both cases, basically, close under cover from optical directed gunnery and shower your target with 5" and torpedoes. That's 60 to 120 torpedoes, good luck. If you want to picture what can happen, a good reference is the naval battle of guadalcanal, the destroyers got so close to the battleships that return fire was in- effective. A second reference is Samar for how hard it 's to hit a DD with BB guns. Add the Naval battle of Casablanca for the effective use of smoke screens. Lastly, DD trace their lineage to torpedo boats, as in destroyer/ torpedoboat flotilla and their purpose is to close in and sink battleships.

@jj-nv1kf did a quick search on the film and it was "based" on the book "Boarding Party" and the ships were in Mormugao harbor in the Portuguese territory of Goa. Now I want to know the real story!
