Comments by "AtomicBabel" (@AtomicBabel) on "Naval Boilers - Grates Under Pressure" video.
This brought back memories of an old "Shoe" comic strip, yellowed from time and forever posted for all our engineers and support people to see. Santa with his reindeers and sleigh feeling the warmth from the rising steam off the bow catapults as he prepares to depart after leaving presents for the crew of a CV in deployment somewhere far from home. Merry Christmas, peace on earth, good will to all!

Cutting thru the side to get equipment of all sorts out or in happens with surprising regularity during an extended availability (yard period).

@gerardmdelaney to the bridle

@gerardmdelaney and think of the poor AB that had to crawl under all that.

@gerardmdelaney yes, oh yes, and more prayers were heard and the Lord gave the dirty and sleepless the nose gear launch and deleted the bridle and the bridle arrester.

For those who are wondering, current USN catapults connect to the aircraft via the tow bar to the nose strut. Prior to this a V shape bridle cable was used and the point of the V connects to the cat. The 2 ends were hooked onto hard points under the wings. The dirty job for the junior enlisted was to crawl under the wings, on his back to make the connection....right under the jet intake.

@LiveErrors If you have not, check out the gun layout on the Omaha Class CL's of the inter war period. They had centerline turrets and castmates on top of castmates on the wings. Crazy set up but that resulted in 6 guns firing ahead and 4 of which can fire ro the broadside.

@PositionLight but wet steam is an excellent resource. Once you have a tank of wet saturated steam, the gaseous steam that you tap from it is at constant pressure and with the liquid making up for the loss gaseous steam, a plentiful reservoir. USN CV (Forrestal, Kittty & America) and all CVNs use wet steam accumulators for the catapults for this very reason. Edit: not totally sure about ALL the CVs, but definitely all the CVNs as they are now and had been for decades. (Ford Class excluded since EMALS)

@LiveErrors PG 9 Helena perhaps? She had pedestal mounts, side by side and in front of the superstructure.
