@mattblom3990 Breckenridge, now that I can really relax and listen and watch a Naval history show after a long day of Naval planning and construction. A Bourbon from far away from the ocean and well above sea level.

Fabulous discussion on mission kill, design reservation, balanced design and the different solutions from the various Navys and why. Less I forget, the importance of HM&E and hotel services to the combat effectiveness of a warship. BRAVO ZULU, we want more!

@SilentCyRadioShow happy news, the dream team was revealed in a recent DD. Can't remember which one, but it was recent.

@richmcgee434 based on an Italian design. They will be built in Marinette, Wisconsin.

@ArcticTemper for a ship of any size over a PT boat, pretty bad. Militaty seaplanes did not have the capacity to rescue that many people per airplane and expect to take-off. After the Indianapolis survivors were found, at least one flying boat landed (against orders) and ended up as a large life boat. It was pretty much wrecked from flying again even after the rescued were picked up by a ship. Landing a sea or float plane in open ocean was not easy. Scout float planes over come this by landed in the flattened wake of the attending warship. An alternative system were B17 (and maybe B24s) with the ability to air drop a whale boat. For downed aircrews in ones and twos, seaplanes were well suited.

@johnshepherd8687 was pondering the same question. Savo and the First Night Battle of Guadalcanal were failures in leadership, and failure to exploit radar (plus other failures such as you described). So if the new cruisers came with the same commanders and thinking... then the results may be the same. Now for Tasafaranga, radar was exploited and with good leadership so whether the USN cruisers were treaty or post treaty, they would still eat a bag of torpedoes. However, would they suffer less dramatically damage (not losing bows) or sinking?

With the advantages on 6 vs 8 inch guns on cruisers freshly discussed. Did the Mogamis make a bad decision switching from 6.1 to 8? Imaging a Mogami Class plank owner looking at a Brooklyn Class light show with envy.

@johnshepherd8687 yup, bad tactical disposition, would not matter which heavy cruisers were used.
