  1. Oooh, another idiot. The Labour Party was formed by the unions. The coal mines were nationalised by the 1946 Labour government. Lord Robens, who headed the National Coal Board was previously a unionist and Labour MP. It was a Labour government in power in 1966 when this event happened.
