I completely disagree. If you want music, play your own music. I can't concentrate on what's being said when there's distracting background music.

@Allan Brawer I've complained on previous TIK videos about overly distracting music, yes. Yes, there are documentaries where the music is so loud it drowns out the narrator - especially war documentaries. It's a plague of modern documentaries. I'll try to find an example. The reason music is added, is to make it more exciting - I don't want to be excited, I want to learn. I find war exciting enough.

@Allan Brawer I found the TIK video I compained about. https://youtu.be/UGxODQR6GS0

@Bill Callahan Don't try to make out like you're being reasonable. If you want to listen to music, there's nothing stopping you. Here's an hour of war music, enjoy. https://youtu.be/2F6-GCMHZNI While you're listening, try to think of a reason why I should be forced to listen to it, too. I want to listen to TIK, and if his words are drowned, there's nothing I can do about it.

@TIK Stand-up comedians don't have background music. Why not? Because if you miss a word, you won't get the joke.

I don't object to music in itself. If I'm watching Primitive Technology https://youtu.be/JgQ-07VgJuY I open another tab and play some music. I'm playing music now, while typing this (Under Pressure - Queen) I have broad musical taste - often listening to Vivaldi and opera arias. https://youtu.be/QPba-i26YNA, https://youtu.be/gFoet3qe6L0?list=RDC1ZL5AxmK_A The Danish National Opera did a series of Western movies - Fistful of Dollars, Sicilian Clan, https://youtu.be/4niv522mbtM https://youtu.be/mOFyRCMlXIo I like the pop music of the 60s and 70s (my era). (now California Dreamin') https://youtu.be/sB_gALjOLqI I like some modern songs; Back to Black, Don't Speak, Torn, ... If I'm playing a video game (eg Anno 1404) that has background music, I turn it off - it (slows the game down, and) gets repetitive after a short while.

@Allan Brawer Dude, surely you understand I wasn't suggesting you edit music in. I don't know about you, but I'm using a browser - I can open multiple tabs - I can play a music video in one tab, a speech video in another tab, and hear them both. The only thing I need do is set the volume levels so the music doesn't intrude on the speech.

We're talking about TIK here, not Hollywood. He just has music playing in the background - it's not timed to match the script. Sound effects? What sound effects?
