  1. 3:35 "Pienaar reports a large force ... to the East, which is probably meant to be the West." The South Africans have actually got a good excuse for that. South Africa is around 30S, Egypt is 30N - the Sun's at the right height, but on the wrong side of them, so East and West will swap over. If a man knows instinctively which way is North (ie facing the midday Sun) giving him a compass wont help - he'll see what he expects to see.

  2. Oh, the Sun goes the other way, too! We northerners face South and see the Sun move left to right. In SA, they face north and see the Sun move right to left. That's got to mess with your head.
