  1.  @scottcantdance804  Eh, the Irish famine was a net good for the US, Canada and the Australian colonies. Immigrants tend to increase economic activity and could offset the declines in some domestic markets resulting from this problem. Australia especially could do with a larger population, it's currently about a third of America's people to farmland ratio.

  2.  @patrickwilliamson29  Those issues are caused by poor planning laws, not population size. The UK has a larger population than Australia living in an area smaller than Victoria, yet they fit everyone in. It is only our refusal to build anything other than standalone single family homes with backyards that causes the problem. If we built terraces or other medium density housing instead we would be fine.

  3.  @patrickwilliamson29  Because higher density housing is better? Terrace homes in Melbourne don't sell for millions because people don't like to live in them. The higher the density, the more services you can fit in the area. More parks, more public transport. Currently the problem is that planning codes don't let us build them in most places. I have nothing against houses, I just think we should be allowed to build other dwellings too. Also, Malaysia actively discriminates against non-Malay citizens, especially Chinese and Indian ones. They want to leave because it is better for them and their families. We have an entire continent, and to quote the national anthem "boundless plains to share". 25 million people is not enough. 100 million would be preferable. Australian history is just a conga-line of immigrants trying to pull the ladder up behind them, but our country gets better every time we let more people in.

  5.  @stixinst5791  Yeah, but the Moon's gravity probably makes it worse for your body than Mars. Plus Mars has the potential for an atmosphere while the Moon does not. And who would live on a boring grey rock when you could have an exciting blood-red one anyway?
