The second world war did an enormous amount of damage to the world, and actually destroyed the power base of the existing world order. No secret conspiracy would burn down cities and slaughter millions if they could just assassinate a few oligarchs instead. Worse still, they broke the conditioning of those millions who would literally give their lives for their country and the millions more that watched on as the propaganda they believed was shown to be junk.
