We can't even crew three new frigates, let alone a new aircraft carrier. The problem is Australia's economy and population are too small to field a powerful navy

@edmundprice5276 Except we could never have the population anyway, without conscription Australia just doesn't have enough people. We are on the most hostile inhabited continent and our current agricultural practices are unsustainable. We just can't have a military large enough to fight anyone by ourselves. In WW2 countries lost more troops than we had people, many times over. Unless we had a seriously automated military we could never run a large navy. The only way we could win is with a technological advantage. Which we don't have.
