  85. I lived in Orlando, Lake Mary, and Winter Park for 27 yrs. Moved to northern VA in 2012. Same humidity up there. The ONLY thing I miss about FL are the gulf coast beaches. After living in VA for 5 yrs I picked up and moved to Austin TX and love it here! The winters in VA were miserable for this FL girl. I’ve heard Orlando has grown a lot. And it’s sad to see how FL has gone downhill since I left. My two least favorite cities were the Miami area, mainly because I hated that the Hispanics refuse to learn to speak English, and I’m not into tourist cities or partying, and Daytona has never been a great place because of the spring breakers ruin it year after year. I was an avid wildlife photographer back in those days and spent most of my time at the beach or exploring the wildlife refuges. Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge is the best for you nature lovers. Oh, if you want to see something really cool, google blowing rocks preserve in Jupiter Island. “The preserve was named for its rocky Anastasia limestone shoreline (literally looks like lava formation)—the largest on the Atlantic coast. At high tide when the sea is rough, seas break against the rocks and form plumes of saltwater up to 50 feet high.” I’ve witnessed this. But be warned, DO NOT wear flip flops as the sharp edges will pierce your flip flops and you don’t want to walk barefoot. There are lots of large holes that you can easily fall into if you’re not paying attention and you will get hurt! I was taking photos along the edge and a wave splashed up and I took a step back to avoid getting my expensive camera wet when I stepped into one of those holes, yep, I did that. The hole was about 6’ deep, I’m 5’ and was dangling. Luckily my camera was saved but my body was scratched up from my armpits down both legs and I was bleeding. I think my body was in shock as I was shaking like a leaf and I got cold (it was mid summer) and I just wanted to leave. I’ve been there a lot and do love it there as I’ve never seen anything like it in person. There may even be YouTube videos on Blowing Rocks Preserve. It’s a site to behold!

  530.  @troygarza5720  exist, sure, but not live in public places. In Texas it is against the law! It is a misdemeanor. There is help for those who want it. The issue the rest of us have is that the homeless leave trash everywhere even though the city puts out trash bins. It’s disrespectful when the rest of us are forced to keep our properties clean. And I know you’re going to “assume” I live in a nice fancy house. Well, you would be wrong. I was homeless back in 2012 when the economy took a turn in 2008/2009 I lost my job and home because I couldn’t find a job doing what I was doing. My job was very specific and I had been doing that job for 15 years. I was lucky enough to be able to move out of state and live with my sister until I got back on my feet. It took 5 years. But I did it. No way was I going to live out of my car because that’s when things start to get even worse and I was determined to get back on my feet. We just want the homeless to keep their areas free of garbage so the wind doesn’t blow it around. We are sick of garbage being left on the medians at intersections when the homeless are panhandling. Tired of homeless moving and leaving most of their hoarded belongings behind. Why is that so difficult to keep the encampments clean? Do you want Texas to look like California? Texas is a beautiful state and people want to help but not if you’re not willing to help keep our state clean. It’s sad to see the homeless living the way they do. Life can be so much better if you just make an effort. It’s going to get down to 14° Thursday night. I hope you’re able to find shelter and stay warm. I do care and just want to see the homeless get off the streets. It’s not a good life. I hope you have a good day.

  597. Y’all need to do a little more research. The earliest civilizations, along the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in Mesopotamia, the Nile in Egypt, the Indus, valley of India, and China’s Yangtze river valley, had slavery. The first true slave society in history emerged in ancient Greece between the sixth and fourth centuries. In Athens during the classical period, 1/3 to a half of the population consisted of slaves. Slavery never disappeared from medieval Europe. While slavery declined in Northwestern Europe, it persisted in Sicily, southern Italy, Russia, southern France, Spain, and north Africa. Most of the slaves were “white”, coming from areas in Eastern Europe, or near the Black Sea. When Europeans began to colonize the New World at the end of the 15th century, they were well aware of the institution of slavery. As early as 1300, Europeans were using black and Russian slaves to raise sugar on Italian plantations. During the 1400s, decades before Columbus’s discovery of the New World, Europeans exploited African labor on slave plantations, built on sugar producing islands off the coast of west Africa. Sometime in 1619, a Portuguese, slave ship, the São João Bautista, traveled across the Atlantic ocean, with a hull filled with human cargo: captive Africans from Angola, in southwestern Africa. The slaves were bound for a life of enslavement in Mexico. Almost half the captives died by the time the ship was seized by two English pirate ships; the remaining Africans were taken to Point Comfort in Jamestown, Virginia. Which countries have most slaves today? India with 11,050,000 people in modern slavery China with 5,771,000 North Korea with 2,696,000 Pakistan with 2,349,000 Russia with 1,899,000 Indonesia, with 1,833,000 Nigeria with 1,611,000 These are the largest estimated absolute numbers.
