I have learned from living in Austin Texas for five years that Democrat mayors are the worst and don’t want to do anything about the homeless situation. They believe it’s not that big of an issue. Well, the people in Austin spoke and got it on the ballot to vote against encampments and it passed. It is now a misdemeanor to set up homeless encampments and the police had to go around and tell the homeless that they need to pack up what they could because dump trucks were coming around to pick up what was left over to take to the dump. The homeless were put into hotels that were bought by the city to help them transition. Then the city Council decided a few months ago they didn’t want the cops going out and telling the homeless that they had to leave and now our homeless situation is starting to get bad again. Once in a while you will come across an encampment that has been taken down. From talking to the homeless here most of them don’t want to work and don’t want to pay taxes. The others are alcoholics, drug users, and mentally ill. Also, there’s a law suit against the city of Austin for not enforcing the no camping ban. It’s sad to see San Diego like this.

Wow! I lived in Orlando from 1989 to 2012 and we never had a homeless population like that. This is also the first time I’m seeing the soccer stadium which I did not know existed. I’m glad I live in Austin Texas now. I would not want to be driving around in the Paramore area of Orlando. We don’t have rundown places like that in Austin.

True about Texas! Especially here in Austin because it’s growing too fast and we can’t keep up with the infrastructure. But, for those who have moved here from other states, we won’t be rude to you. We are welcoming and will talk to you as if you are our neighbor.

I lived in Orlando, Lake Mary, and Winter Park for 27 yrs. Moved to northern VA in 2012. Same humidity up there. The ONLY thing I miss about FL are the gulf coast beaches. After living in VA for 5 yrs I picked up and moved to Austin TX and love it here! The winters in VA were miserable for this FL girl. I’ve heard Orlando has grown a lot. And it’s sad to see how FL has gone downhill since I left. My two least favorite cities were the Miami area, mainly because I hated that the Hispanics refuse to learn to speak English, and I’m not into tourist cities or partying, and Daytona has never been a great place because of the spring breakers ruin it year after year. I was an avid wildlife photographer back in those days and spent most of my time at the beach or exploring the wildlife refuges. Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge is the best for you nature lovers. Oh, if you want to see something really cool, google blowing rocks preserve in Jupiter Island. “The preserve was named for its rocky Anastasia limestone shoreline (literally looks like lava formation)—the largest on the Atlantic coast. At high tide when the sea is rough, seas break against the rocks and form plumes of saltwater up to 50 feet high.” I’ve witnessed this. But be warned, DO NOT wear flip flops as the sharp edges will pierce your flip flops and you don’t want to walk barefoot. There are lots of large holes that you can easily fall into if you’re not paying attention and you will get hurt! I was taking photos along the edge and a wave splashed up and I took a step back to avoid getting my expensive camera wet when I stepped into one of those holes, yep, I did that. The hole was about 6’ deep, I’m 5’ and was dangling. Luckily my camera was saved but my body was scratched up from my armpits down both legs and I was bleeding. I think my body was in shock as I was shaking like a leaf and I got cold (it was mid summer) and I just wanted to leave. I’ve been there a lot and do love it there as I’ve never seen anything like it in person. There may even be YouTube videos on Blowing Rocks Preserve. It’s a site to behold!

Need to look up what we had to do here in Austin, TX to be rid of homeless encampments. Homeless encampments are now illegal throughout all of Texas. I would say about 75% of Our homeless have been moved to transition places like older motels. Btw, our liberal mayor hates that we won. He was perfectly fine with the homeless situation as long as they weren’t camping out in front of his place at the W Hotel. We used to see drug needles and feces all over the place. We have finally claimed back our city!

I’m a rideshare driver from Austin and a few years ago I made two trips to Houston to take a rider to the airport and I will never go back there because every trip I got after that I ended up in an undesirable part of Houston. Houston is a shithole.
