  1. Need to secure their futures and their pensions first basically. I guess the argument goes that it's essentially a Faustian bargain that they make at the beginning of their careers when they're looking to progress and once their nest is properly feathered and secured they can then finally afford 'the luxury' of a conscience possessed of us lesser mortals.
