  1. Rather unsurprisingly Ann Widdecombe misses the point here in typical bean counting Tory fashion. What the tax cut did or did not cost the treasury is not the point and nor is it at all relevant in relation to how much more money is absolutely necessarily being spent on the fuel cap. Nevermind that most of those who were potentially on the right end of it wouldn't likely have invested it in actively 'growing' the UK economy as was being touted. It was Tory red meat. Pure and simple. 'Growing the pie'. My @rse. It was how that cut was perceived by the vast majority of squeezed voters at an incredibly inauspicious time for them and how Tory MPs would be forced to try and justify this unjustifiable sh*tshow both to their constituents and future voters on the doorstep.
