So if we accept we're on the edge of a carbon induced precipice why aren't we all stopping what we're doing? Sure, I hear people envangelising, but I don't really see much in the way of actual positive action. No cancelled foreign holidays or big purchases. Nothing really. Just a lot of 'for thee and not for me' going on, but little else.

@enderwiggin1113 Well, yeah and that's the point. I'm rather cynical about all this truth be told, but that's irrelevant. All I hear is lots of 'the end is nigh' gnashers and wailers - a good many likely commenting on this thread - saying 'why don't we do something it's one minute to midnight' and yet I'll bet my life that most of them are actually just chin stroking and doing bugger all about it in real terms. Buying something like an electric car is not 'green' FFS. NOT buying an electric car is a darn sight greener but far less conspicuous, but hardly anyone will do that. If you buy into the narrative, endless consumption is the real problem here, but as far as I can see no one really has any intention of curtailing that established habit anytime soon.

@enderwiggin1113 Chance I'll have to take, but I see very little evidence going on a around me. Even had to listen to an (very nice) Australian bemoaning how Australian politicians weren't doing anything in terms of ACC about terrible bushfires after he'd just flown all the way to the UK, then planned flying to Ireland, back to the UK again and then back to Australia. Not his only foreign trip that year either I might add. Still, as an example to others on here, what steps are you taking and seeing others take?

@enderwiggin1113 I suspect you're doing way more than most and certainly way more than literally anyone I know. And I meet and talk to a lot of people in my job. I hereby grant you a licence to preach to others with a reasonably clear conscience about climate change. Believe me, you're the first and there isn't a queue forming.

@enderwiggin1113 Sure, thanks. Maybe I just know more people who like to throw it into conversation with little real intention of doing anything about it. The big issue really is people changing their habits and being willing to change their habits. That I am not seeing. Just lots of jabbering and talking about the undeniable science. Relatively easy stuff if you think an apocalypse is imminent like consuming far less, making stuff last longer, making stuff that's repairable at an affordable price, insulating your home, reusing your bath and shower water in the garden, massive national investment in public transport infrastructure, shared car ownership, eating less meat, stopping flying and all long distance travel, zoom meetings, working from home instead of commuting to offices, the list goes on.
