  2. Covid and our utterly insane response to it, doling out literally hundreds of billions and shutting down the bulk of the economy for months on end was the real game changer here. The Tories are awful, but don't forget that ALL the other parties in the UK and devolved parliaments endorsed this madness with many thinking these Draconian measures had never gone far or fast enough.
