It certainly does seem like the USD owes its continuing primacy in no small part to the fact that the rest of the world can't even come close to agreeing to a viable alternative and that the imperfect global status quo seems to be the least worst option.

Listened to this twice now and will keep listening until it goes in. It hasn't yet I'm afraid. This is a monetary and economic masterclass in minutes with but a few quibbles.

Thank you for answering this question. I've heard that the US is currently exporting inflation to the rest of the world but couldn't find a reasonable explanation of it. Now I have.

Hugely informative piece warranting repeated listens, but it does make my brain hurt!!

Isn't that a myth around BTC and indeed other cryptocurrencies? Governments might not be able to actually seize crytopcurrencies without access to the private keys, but they can effectively render them useless anyway because they can, 'control the interface points at which they are traded'.

True, but imperialism is an innate human tendency. Nobody ever said it had to benign or that one form which replaces another will necessarily be better.

@CRMcGee2 Doesn't make any difference whether it exists in the mind or not, history shows us it invariably manifests itself in some form or other. Humans are inherently predisposed to it and likely always will be.

@Dethfeast Following the Second World War there were $4 to the UK Pound. I think if you look now that might be rather fewer regardless of the current unfortunate circumstances. Both currencies have, of course, been subject to inflation since then but the USD has experienced far less than the GBP I think you'll find and I think you'll also find that it's hardly unique in this.
