I do find it consistently odd and annoying that whilst the most obvious manifestation of the UK's woes can be traced back to 2008 (and really its roots long before that) this slide occurred during the many years we were actually IN the EU. And yet here we are being repeatedly reminded by professional and amateur commentary alike that somehow this has all simply occurred since 2016.

As ever, whilst the size of the pie is always an important economic consideration, ultimately how it is divided up is the far more important political one. With each successive crisis the rich seem to be getting richer in real terms and the poor poorer. Make of that what you will.
