@InnuendoXP Much of it yes, I agree, in an ideal world, but the 'market' blowback from such a move would be considerable. Corbyn, whose economic plans weren't exactly 'out there', was never removed as Labour leader in such a concerted effort because he was an 'anti-semite' but likely because of just such 'radical' plans. That along with questions over his position on nuclear deterrence.

Anyone old enough to remember the days when 'privatisation' of utilities was sold as the means of promoting greater competition, driving efficiencies, encouraging much needed investment and driving prices for consumers down? Utter BS on stilts of course, but it was a popular narrative that essentially fed into people's ideological fervour, greed and/or blissful ignorance at the time.

Taking a vital service, an integral piece of national infrastructure thus a financial dead cert and then loading it up with ever more debt whilst paying dividends and failing to invest isn't 'business' it's organised theft. Theft with the full complicity of the financial and political establishment.

Macmillan might have been an old school patrician doddery Etonian Tory but he saw many of these privatisations for what they were. He called them out at the time as 'selling the family silver' and we're reaping that wild wind today.
