  1. Not just economists that play fast and loose with statistics, so do climate scientists, the media and politicians. The mass US forest fires a year or so back were being attributed to ACC and the gradually increasing graphs 'proved' it. Trouble was the official datasets used from the US fire services on started in the 1950s. One had to bother to look back in the official tiny little logs to see that they had in fact fallen precipitously since 1930 which was the high point by far in terms of forest fires and their sheer level of destruction. The problem, of course, is that this didn't actually fit the popular narrative so even those who dared to point it out were summarily ignored by pretty much everyone to this day.
