In the UK where I'm from higher wages are all well and good but increasingly its the undertaxed big boys' businesses that can only really afford to pay them along with all the other associated costs of employing people and it's often the big boys who are constantly crushing the nuts of the SMEs' margins. By turn, it's the SMEs that form the backbone of the tax base so something, somewhere has to give.
