It's way too early to say and I'm not defending what Trump may or may not be doing, but this was surely always a possibility given that so-called 'liberals' have been doing much the same for decades now in the US and elsewhere. Once you start messing with institutions, expanding them and stacking them with your 'own' and then clearly weaponising these power bases against your opponents then don't be surprised if your actions come back to bite you.
