On a side note, the Napoleonic Code upon which EU law is now based is essentially intent on codifying everything people CAN and CAN'T do whereas UK Common Law is based upon the principle that that what is not expressly forbidden is permitted. Common Law empowers the judiciary over the legislature to make laws according to the precedents it sets through interpretation of the law whereas the codified civil law doesn't allow for these looser judicial interpretations. Ireland and Cyprus are now the only countries in the EU that follow a Common Law system since Brexit. These two countries then, particularly Ireland, will find it increasingly difficult to push back against the EU civil law juggernaut without the UK.
