How many of these peoples in Europe were actually given referenda on joining NATO and how many were simply bounced into it by their political elites off the back of some alleged threat?

@zenombereznicki 'Polls' can show lots of things. Even which cat food owners claim their cats prefer. Are you saying that 'a poll' should decide whether a country effectively permanently sacrifices much of its military and political autonomy and sovereignty? By the same token are you saying that if 'poll' sentiment turns negative then the member country should then leave? I think we both know your answer to that one. 'Polls' are not only easily manipulated they are but an ephemeral snapshot in time and should under NO circumstances be used as an excuse to override the due democratic process or serious, reasoned debate as you apparently believe they should.

Despite numerous other examples, the Romanian election result cancellation was one of the most tenuous and blatant affronts to the democratic process that I've ever seen. The West is sliding towards authoritarianism under the entirely false premise that our elites are defending us against it. The masses are still sleepwalking towards it and need to wake up to this before it's too late.
